Important Notice for Snowbirds
and 30 day Visitors to the United States
In the United States for more than 30 days
Snowbirds or visitors planning to stay in the United States for more than 30 days should respectfully request and I-94.
If you’re a Canadian citizen visiting the U.S., you’re generally allowed to stay for up to 182 days (about 6 months) in a rolling 12-month period.
It’s not based on the calendar year (January to December).
Instead, U.S. immigration looks backward 12 months from today’s date (any date) and checks how many days total you were in the U.S. during that time.
The limit is 182 days total in any 12-month span.
Ensure you have the following documents:
- Proof of accommodation in the U.S. (e.g. lease, property taxes, condo fee statements, etc.)
- Evidence of ties to Canada (e.g., lease or property taxes
- Proof of employment, if applicable
- Proof that you can financially support yourself while in the U.S. This may include a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds, proof of income, or other financial documents demonstrating your ability to cover expenses during your stay.
- Date of planned return to Canada.
It is advised to verify if you have been issued an electronic I-94 upon entry.
It is advised to verify whether an electronic I-94 has been issued before leaving the border to avoid the need to register with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) using Form G-325R.

Follow these steps

the terms of service.3Enter your traveler information, including first and last name, date of birth, country of citizenship, and document number (passport number).
If your latest I-94 is visible, no further action is required as you are already registered with the federal government.
If no I-94 is found
If no I-94 is found, return to the border and explain to the officer that there has been an error. Request that they issue you an I-94, as it is your right to have one to show your legal status in the U.S.
