Canadian Salespersons and Business Consultants
Your Gateway to the United States
The United States maintains treaties of commerce and navigation with over 50 countries, including Canada. These treaties facilitate the entry of Canadian salespersons and business consultants into the U.S. market, allowing them to engage in substantial trade and services between the two nations.
By leveraging these opportunities, Canadian salespersons and business consultants can effectively represent Canada and facilitate trade and services between the two nations, strengthening economic ties and expanding their professional horizons.
Admissibility Requirements
To qualify for entry under these treaties, applicants must meet specific criteria, including:
- Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of a treaty country, such as Canada.
- Business Premises: Applicants must have a dedicated business office in the United States; home offices are generally not acceptable.
- Substantial Trade: Applicants must demonstrate substantial trade between the U.S. and their home country, evidenced by proof of sales of goods and/or services.
- Principal Trade: At least 51% of the international trade conducted must be between the United States and the applicant’s home country and vice versa.
Advantages for Salespersons and Consultants
- Streamlined Entry: Eligible Canadian professionals can access the U.S. market with relative ease, fostering cross-border trade and services.
- Extended Validity: Certain U.S. business visas permit executives, managers, supervisors, and essential employees of non-U.S. companies that engage in substantial trade between the U.S. and a treaty country to obtain work permits valid for up to five years.
- Family Benefits: Spouses of visa holders are entitled to apply for employment authorization, enhancing family integration and economic opportunities.
- No Minimum Investment Required: Unlike certain other visa categories, these visas do not necessitate a substantial financial investment, making them accessible to a broader range of professionals.
